Insurance Service Approach
Having in-depth industry or technical
expertise alone is not enough to solve the distribution challenges
faced by the financial services industry. It takes an approach
that applies a combination of both industry and technical skills,
spanning many layers including business, strategy and technology;
driven by a process that analyzes and maps the organization’s
internal capabilities and capacity with an overlay of the external
demands required to support its distribution channel.
Throughout the
past two years, based upon its work with insurance companies and
banks, Swingtide has been developing and refining such an approach.
Using its approach, Swingtide can help financial services companies
analyze and determine how to best put
their products and services into new and emerging distribution
mechanisms without impacting their legacy systems. Swingtide’s
approach includes best practices, reference models and a dedication
to knowing the best choices and industry trends.
Fundamental to Swingtide’s approach
is a Distribution Channel Evaluation (DCE) that consists of four
distinct phases of activity: Identify, Inventory, Assess and
Recommend.
Key
deliverables of the evaluation process include a Logical Network
Map, an Application Eco-system and a Scorecard of the organization’s
readiness to deploy and maintain a next-generation distribution
channel.
Each key deliverable provides critical information to Swingtide that
when combined result in a comprehensive view of the organization’s
overall business, channel applications and infrastructure.

Logical Network Map
The Logical Network Map relays
application integration details and provides context as to where the
applications fit within each process. As Swingtide consultants
interview key individuals throughout the organization, they create
these logical views.
The following
diagram is an example of a Logical Network Map.
Application Eco-System diagrams identify key application assets and
their relationships within each line-of-business. While there are
many systems used throughout a financial services company, Swingtide
focuses its efforts on distribution-related application systems.
The following
diagram is an example showing how Swingtide would decompose a
multi-line insurance company into 115 discrete applications.
Swingtide consultants refer to Eco-System diagrams throughout the
engagement to better understand the client’s business and how the
customer facing product and support systems interrelate.
